I met Seven on the streets of Charlottesville, Virginia in the summer of 2007. He was walking with a staff and a Bible and serving those around him in any way possible. Later I learned that he had chosen a lifestyle of poverty out of a genuine motivation to serve the needy in our community. I had the privilege of living with Seven during my 4th year at the University of Virginia.
While painting Seven, I hoped to reveal the extraordinary qualities of his being. This portrait became a act of gratitude towards our unique exchange of friendship and wisdom.
