Don Quixote started as all of my drawings do: a single random unplanned line on the page, leading to the next and the next; abstract shapes claiming the space and gradually taking on a life of their own. It was only after several hours of working that this abstract shape became concrete—a figure on a horse, surreal and fanciful, precariously balanced, energy wound like a spring: Don Quixote and Rocinante.
